About Me

I'm Sarah, a researcher in the field of plant genetics and a former math teacher. I taught math classes at Michigan State University and tutored at Eastern Michigan University before that, where I had started as an art education major. Needless to say, my interests are somewhat varied. From painting, baking, and sewing to math, physics, and probability, I love it all.

Whenever I use mathematics on a project where others would probably use a different tool, I will put it up on the blog (time permitting). Partially, this is to catalog real-world applications for myself to use when I go back to teaching. But if anyone else reads it, I hope it spreads awareness that there can be a legitimate answer to the question, "When I am ever going to use this?" Very rarely do we *need* math, but it can make some tasks easier, some generalizable, and some possible.
